Busy summer

We've had a busy summer, but I have had a few chances to paint.
this is one I plan to give as a wedding gift, the bride loves covered bridges.
I patterned this one after a bridge in Mingo County, PA where my Mother used to live

Artists Christmas Tree for March of dimes

We were asked to donate some art for the Artist's Christmas Tree for the March of Dimes.There were many artist's who donated their beautiful artwork.
I did the crazyquilt star at the top, Maria did the gold framed pictures , Kathie did the beaded roping and Pam and I did some some paintings to hang on the tree. It was gorgeous!

well, the 9th Annual Studio Tour has come to a close.
we were very pleased with the turn-out.
and even more pleased to be painting for 2 week-ends in a row .
loved it!!!
this is one of my new ones: Rainbow Dancers,
my great neice, Margarets dance class was the inspiration.

the group is working through the lessons from Anne Abgott's "Daring Color".With Chris from Alberta's direction,
we're trying her technique for mingling colors. my first attempt was a parrot from the book. and the second pears...

My friend Kathie and I from the Studio on Greene won awards during the Western Maryland Watercolor Society Spring Show.
Kathie won the Newcomer Award for her painting of a seahorse. and I won the Creativity Award for my 'Rainy Daze ' painting which sold the first day of the show!!!!

Kathie, Maria's sister, Jessica, Pam and I all sent entries for the Wills Creek Survey show. we're crossing our fingers , but that show gets entries from all over the country. Maria did get in last year. She sold her painting of Birches during the Studio Tour in the fall. She does the most beautiful birches!

recently , I was asked to paint a picture from a photo taken in Florida on vacation, I've done watercolors of houses for clients but this was my first sunset...I enjoyed doing it and hope to do more of this type of thing.

my friends and I are preparing for our Studio Tour. whew! we've got the paintings and cards ready and plan to paint all four days of the tour , Yay!!!!I've uploaded some of my cards,they are 5X7 and we plan to sell them for $5.00 each. we've cut some mats that fit 8X10 frames and will sell them in frames too.

the size is good, 5"X7", so I'll use them up and then cut some watercolor paper to size.

back to the basics

I want to paint more often so I decided I need to get back to the basics.
I thought I would try and paint at least one painting a day.
It'll be a stretch for me but here goes.
I'm going to use the book 'Mastering the Watercolor Wash' by Joe Garcia as my reference.
the first one I painted was the mountain wash, I used purples and call it Purple Mountains Majesty...it's not really very majestic ( I can see where I need to practise, practise, practise the wash) but I like the name

Busy , busy Summer

I can't believe I haven't updated all summer!
I painted some and sold some , Yay!!!! buys more paint.
and stitched some on Round Robin things, haven't done anything for myself.
one of my painting partners, Maria and I entered the Spring WMD Watercolor Society Show.
Maria won a ribbon and so did I .
we both had 2 paintings hung and we both sold both paintings! yahoo!
We moved the Week-end Watercolor show to the AC Campus Hazen Gallery.
Next is the Fall WMD watercolor
Society Show At the Hazen Gallery and then the Studio Tour in Nov.

My Sis, Toni, and I sent paintings to be juried for an show, 'Art at the Mill' in Berryville,VA.
We both had paintings accepted!
Toni's wonderful 'Poppies' are going and she will be sending 2 others as reserve.
My 'Waiting for the Parade' and 'Summers Lace' were accepted!
my 'Mornings Glory' is on reserve as is 'Under the Sea.
Thanks to my other Sis, Jerry, who critiques our works for us. She's our go-to person when we get bogged down and nothings working...

Kathie, Maria, Nancy and I hung our pictures for our 'show' at the Culinarie Cafe in downtown Cumberland this week.
in the window we have, my 'Sentimental Roses', my Amish 'Lunchtime', Nancy's 'Yellow Daisies', Kathie's 'Parched' on the table and Maria's 'Cock of the Walk' on the wall. after I took the picture we replaced my Amish 'Lunchtime' with one of Kathie's , it just didn't look right.

I worked some more on my Paisley Sampler for the TAST challenge;added some Chevron stitches to a paisley design and played with some CQ project seams. I like the way the green bugle beads highlight the top of the stitch in the one over the Carousel Horse.

I tried to put to use some of the things I'm toying with from Sharon's class on the DYB RR block that I'm playing with. the block belongs to Jackie Y.

I was particularly pleased with my wrapped herringbone seam. I love doing the herringbone stich so I decided it would be a good one to experiment with.....then I " wrapped" the bugle beads.

Oh gosh, look out! I'm going to be a wrapping finatic... :-)

I'm hoping all this is leading the eye around the block?????? to the padded butterfly in the center.

I really like doing the poinsettia , the credit card trees worked much better than I thought ( after I went back later and added more background following the advise of my Sis Jerry.
the snow laden trees are more difficult for me .

I spent the day yesterday before I went to work playing with my paints and my fibers.

I added to my 2nd class sampler and am ready to start work on another hopefully freer one.

and painted some watercolor Christmas cards.

all I want to do is play with my threads and sampler for the Stitch Library Class.

My DH has loaned me a template from his workbench to mark my circles ( I think it's used to tell what size screw to use on a project ) it's wonderful !

he may never get it back!

now to apply Sharon's advise about starting at points around the circle and filling in instead of my old way of working around.

I'm trying out some of my stitches on the seams of RR blocks I'm playing with.

I'll post pictures when I get more finished

my first sampler from the class is on the right. as you can see I was all over the place so I did a second one.
I'm hoping to be able to keep my stitching from going all wonky on me.
I'm the best customer for tiger tape there is!(the tape sane quilters use to mark their stitching lines)
there just isn't enough time in each day to do it all.
